Cultural Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath said in parliament yesterday that they would inform the US authorities that the film is an insult to Buddhism.
Making a special statement he said, "The American film 'Hollywood Buddha' depicts scenes which are harmful to Buddhism and an insult not only to Buddhism but to all religions. Therefore, I will take steps to request the US authorities not to screen this film or any other which is harmful to religions. I will inform the US Embassy shortly."
"We should condemn this film. Thailand has taken the lead and has organized a protest march. As a Buddhist country, we should do the same. I wish to record our strong opposition to this film," he said.
The film, expected to be released on September 24 in Los Angeles depicts in a poster, its director sitting on a Buddha statue.
