Jathika Hela Urumaya Stalwart Ven. Kolonnawe Sumangala thero yesterday confirmed reports regarding his intended resignation as a Member of Parliament at the party Central Committee meeting on Monday. But he said, the leader of the party Ven. Dr. Ellawala Medhananda Thero had wanted him to reconsider his decision and inform them when the Central Committee meets on Friday.Ven Sumangala told The Island, however "I will not resign from the office of national organiser and will remain a member of the party."
Asked why he took a decision to resign his seat, he said "I want to devote more time for religious work and propagation of Dhamma." He admitted that the party had a few problems, but they would be sorted out, he said
We will overcome whatever the obstacles that come our way and strive for our objective for building a 'Dharma Rajya", (A Righteous Rule) he said.
