New Anunayake of Malwatte Chapter by Cyril Wimalasurendre KANDY

Ven. Niyangoda Sri Vijithasiri Nayake Thero was elected the Anunayake (Deputy Head) of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siamese Sect of Sri Lanka on Saturday (23). Ven. Vijithasiri Thero was elected at a meeting of the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha (Supreme Council of the Sangha) of Malwatte Chapter at the historic “Uposhathagaraya” chaired by the Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero. Ven. Vijithasri (56) fills the vacancy created by the Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero who was elevated to the coveted office of the Mahanayake about five months ago. The new Anunayake, Ven. Niyangoda Sri Vijithasiri Thero, a graduate teacher who retired from service held the office of the Secretary General of the Malwatte Chapter for about 13 years. He was a member of the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha (Supreme Council of the Sangha) for a period of nineteen years. He entered the order in 1964 and received the higher ordination in 1970. Ven. Vijithasiri Thero hails from a well-known Kandyan family of Niyangoda in Harispattuwa. Kudabanda Niyangoda Nilame and Wasala Mudiyanselage Bisomenike are his parents.
