To resolve national issue - ‘Agree on a common decision or we the Maha Sangha will boycotte your meetings’ by Cyril Wimalasurendre

KANDY — The Maha Sangha will be compelled to decide on boycotting meetings and functions attended by politicians if they do not respond to the call by Sangha to agree on a common decision to resolve the national issue, warned. Most Ven. Mahanayake of Malwatte, Tibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero when private secretaries of ministers called on him yesterday (20).

The Thero said that politicians should come a common understanding with regard to issues of national importance. "If politicians are not willing to listen to the Sangha, the Sangha will be compelled to take a decision to keep off meetings and ceremonies which attended by politicians."

He said, "I do not mean that that political parties should unite. These should be different political parties, else it will lead to dictatorship. Politicians should shelve their political differences to find a solution to the country’s major issue. Instead of criticising the Advisory Committee appointed to find a solution to the crisis they should attend the meetings and express their views".

The Mahanayake Thero told the delegation of secretaries that parliamentarians did not visit distant rural areas where villagers lived a life of hardship without roads, electricity and many other facilities.

He said that steps should be taken to uplift the standard of living of the rural masses.

Ven. Uvatenne Sumana Thero, Secretary, Sri Lanka Nidahas Pevidi Sanvidhanaya and the Secrataries of the ministers told the Mahanayake Thero that his advise and guidance was necessary to them.
