TNA wants JHU motion in Tamil by Sajeewan Wijewardana

The Jathika Hela Urumaya's demand for the ouster of Norway as facilitator ran into a setback as an adjournment motion moved by the party in parliament was repeatedly interrupted by TNA leader R. Sambandan for an hour.

Stating that the TNA MPs were not aware of the motion and it was a serious matter of fundamental importance, Mr. Sambandan said a Tamil translation of the motion was not put on the parliament notice board and the TNA believed the Speaker should disallow the motion.

He said the motion was also not properly worded as it described the Norwegian facilitators as mediators. Quoting standing orders 12 and 17, Mr. Sambandan persistently argued that the motion could not be taken up as it would be violation of the rights of Tamil MPs.

Mr. Sambandan argued over the Standing Orders from noon to 1 pm, taking one hour of the time allotted for the debate.

The motion said that the Norwegian mediators were detrimental to the nation and urged the Government to ask the Norwegians to withdraw.
